MGMT340 - Human Resources Management

Human Resources Management went into great detail of any issues that can take place within the workplace, and the laws put in effect to lessen said issues. During this course, I felt as though I received a different understanding of what it is that HR Management actually handles. I was aware of sexual harassment, discrimination, Equal Employment Opportunity, but responsibilities such as recruitment, developing programs were new to me.

There was a good mixture of both group and individual work, especially when reviewing laws or case studies. Our group work consisted of case studies, debates, and exchanging our individual thoughts on the course work. Debating was by far the best strategy in understanding both sides to a topic, especially because teams had to research both sides beforehand. Individual work usually consisted of going over cases, determining the Quid Pro Quo, and any laws that were applicable to the case and why.

In this course, we were required to write an essay about a trending topic within Human Resources Management at that time. The topic I chose was the role that Artificial Intelligence has within HRM and what it could help accomplish in the future. I enjoyed researching Artificial Intelligence, because jobs that can be automated are doing just that, while jobs that cannot are turning their focus to how they can become more efficient with the technology given to them. This course introduced me to laws and regulations used in the workplace, and gave me some type of idea of how lawsuits are handled. Debating during this course helped me plan and organize my work, as well as collect and interpret information. We were required to do research on both sides of the argument.   It was also helpful with working in teams as well. We were able to bounce points off of one another during the debate, assisting with counter arguments, or supporting details as well.
